How to get the perfect essay

It is essential to understand the exam structure to write the perfect essay for your IELTS test.

The IELTS writing test consists of two parts called task 1 and task 2.

Task 1 has a 150 words limit whereas, task 2 needs to conclude with a word limit of 250. Failure to complete the limit would result in band reduction.

Begin to get an idea of how many words you usually write in one line. This way will help you know how much you have penned without counting all the words. Creating complex sentences will make it more prone to errors. The purpose of this exam is to analyse your writing abilities. A quality answer will serve you a better chance at scoring more than a lengthy one. Counting words of any row and then multiplying that by the total number of rows of your written text will give you a rough estimate of your word count.

Plan your answer

Prepare a rough answer as per the question in your mind before you pen it down. The best way to accumulate your time is 20 minutes for task 1 and to devote 40 minutes to task 2 as it has an addition of 100 words to write.

Make it presentable

Make sure to structure your answer by making use of paragraphing. Divide up the different arguments or topics you are discussing. Your passage should have proper spacing, punctuation and division between paragraphs. Do not copy the question. Use the rubric (question) only to introduce both tasks' topics, but make sure you put it in your own words.

Be versatile

Show versatility in your vocabulary and sentence formation. Your writing skills need to showcase the best of writing abilities you possess. You can make a balance between complex and simple sentence formations to conquer this.

Read questions thoroughly

Knowing what to answer and how to answer is essential. If you miss out on even a single portion of what is asked, your answer could lack the essence and precision. In this case, no matter how meticulous your writing is, your marks will be deducted. Do not skip out on the instructions. You must read all instructions carefully.
